Lacrosse - Possible HS sport in spring 2016
May 14, 2015
We are considering the addition of both a boys and a girls Holly/Brandon co-op lacrosse team for the spring of 2015-16.  Anyone currently attending an elementary, middle or high school in Holly is welcome to attend a meeting to discuss the addition of lacrosse as a high school sport. Two meetings will be held to gage the interest level of those in our community.  You may attend whatever meeting is most convenient for you.  Meetings are open to students and parents K-12.

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd @ 6:30pm at Holly HS.

The second meeting will be held on Thursday, June 4th @ 6:30pm at Brandon HS.

Lacrosse will be a self-funded sport; in other words, school sponsored but not school funded. This is similar to the other recent additions to the athletic department offerings of HS hockey, HS bowling, MS bowling, MS swim and 8th grade BB/SB.

Plan to attend either meeting if at all interested.  Information is being gathered and will be distributed at the meeting.  If you can not attend, contact me after the meeting via email and I will send information at that time.

If you have experience as a college lacrosse player or lacrosse coach, please contact me at deb.vankuiken@has-k12.org.

Physical Day - Wed., June 3rd - $15
May 13, 2015
PHYSICAL DAY … Wednesday, June 3rd for only $15

The athletic department, along with Dr. Larry Baylis and his staff, are offering a physical day at HHS on Wednesday, June 3rd.  Pre-participation sport physicals are required for all MS and HS student athletes.  Anyone, including elementary age students and athletes from outside of our district, may sign up.

Sign up process...
1.  Stop in the high school athletic office and schedule an appt. for $15.  The fee is due at the time you schedule an appt. and therefore you can not call for an appt.
2.  You will be given an appt. card, an appt. time and a physical form.
3.  Completely fill out the form including signatures from the parent and the athlete.  The only portion that should be blank when you arrive is the portion to be completed by the doctor.
4.  Note - we will begin giving physicals at 3pm.  If you sign up fairly soon, you will get an appt. early in the afternoon.  If you wait to sign up until later in the month or early June, you will get a late afternoon/early evening time slot.  There is NO end time.  We will be done after the last scheduled appt.

Day of…June 3rd
1.  Arrive 5-10 minutes early … do not be late.
2.  Get a physical
3.  MS / HS students - leave your physical form on file with us; if you need a copy, we will give you one.  Elem. students - take your form with you.

> Holly Area Schools - Snow Day Make Up Announcement
April 17, 2014
As you know, this winter challenged Michigan residents with record snowfall and shivering wind chill temperatures. The extreme weather conditions caused broken water pipes and power outages resulting in cancellations at all Holly Area Schools beyond the six days allowed by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Recent legislation (HB4295) establishes the minimum number of instructional hours and days each district must meet to maintain full school funding.

To meet the requirements of the new legislation, the Holly Area Schools calendar has been revised as follows for the 2013-14 school year:

Last Day of School
Wednesday, June 11 (half day):
➢ Holly Elementary
➢ Davisburg Elementary
➢ Patterson Elementary
➢ Rose Pioneer Elementary*
➢ Holly Middle School
*Note: Rose Pioneer missed two more days than the rest of the district due to a broken water pipe and must make up both days with at least 75% attendance to end school on June 11.

Thursday, June 12 (half day):
➢ Holly High School (half day final exams on June 11 and June 12)
> Rose Pioneer Make-up Days
April 17, 2014
Rose Pioneer will be in session April 21 and May 23 for their two make up days. This will allow Rose Pioneer to end the school year on Wednesday, June 11, the same as all K8 Holly schools. Mr. Beattie is updating parents today through the newsletter, School Messenger, and on the Rose Pioneer website.

Area Volleyball Community Cares About our Kids
August 15, 2010
Fall Sports began this past week and due to a recent resignation we began the season without a varsity volleyball coach.  As of 9:10pm Saturday night, we have a very qualified woman willing to coach the team this season and she will be introduced to the girls on Monday at their 4pm practice.  The reason for this post, however, is to share that during our week without a coach, people in the volleyball community - including those who formerly coached at HHS and those employed at other local schools such as Fenton, Swartz Creek, Linden, Lake Fenton and Grand Blanc specifically - have worked with me in attempting to come up with a qualified candidate for our program.  This clearly demonstrates that we are only opponents ON the court.  Many thanks to them.

State Champions - Beeler and Gaumer!!!
June 6, 2010
On Saturday, Jonathan Beeler jump 6'9" to win the state title.  He didn't stop there...he then jumped 6'11" and earned an MHSAA Division 1 record!  Justin Gaumer threw the discus 170'5" to win the crown then finished 4th in the shot put with a throw of 53'10".  Josh Fiedor finished with all state honors as he took 5th in the pole vault by clearing 14'7".  Jenna Mitchell qualified for the final round in the discus and finished her junior season with her personal best throw.  The 4x800m relay team of Davis Nixon, Luke Scherwin, Keon Ellison and Cameron Moussavi broke a 20 year old school record with their time of 7:59.11.  Congratulations!
